Scoring, scoring and more scoring…
After a day off, D.C. United came back to the playing field to take on Chivas USA in its third game of the Generation adidas Cup. DJ Reeves opened the scoring in the 5th minute when Gerson Umana crossed a ball in and Reeves buried it in the back of the net. Chivas went down to 10 men after a two-footed challenge on Lucas Mendes in the 23rd minute. Christophe Koffi scored United’s second goal off a Milton Juarez cross to give United the 2-0 lead going into halftime. Chivas pulled one goal back in the 63rd, but Koffi responded one minute later with a great individual effort to give the Black-and-Red the 3-1 lead. The fourth and final goal came from a Jonathan Bell cross to Liam Hoen-Beck, who headed home the ball for the 4-1 D.C. victory.
“Overall, it was a strong performance from the boys. Their collective defending was organized and relentless,” said D.C. United U-16 Head Coach Tom Torres. “They constantly worked to regain possession and were clean in their transition to attack. We were especially proud of their response after giving up a goal. The defensive unit was strong the entire game against a team with a lot of attacking quality.”
