Last night, D.C. United topped defending MLS Cup Champion Sporting Kansas City 3-0. With goals from Fabián Espíndola, Chris Rolfe and Perry Kitchen, the Black-and-Red claimed first in the Eastern Conference as well as the League. Additionally, the victory marked United's first-ever win at Sporting Park.
Most of the players were unaware of this statistic. Once made aware, their reactions varied.
Perry Kitchen: It’s a huge win for us, espeically here. For me that’s the first time I've won here which is pretty cool. It’s a tough place to play."
It wasn't only your first win here, it was the Club's.
PK: Oh, nice! Yeah, wow. It's definitely a hard place to play.
Davy Aranud: That’s nice, but if it was our eighth win here, it wouldn’t really make a difference. What has happened in the past doesn’t matter. What happened last season, it doesn’t matter. What is important is right now and we are happy with the win.
Sean Franklin: I guess we made history tonight, which is always a good thing.
