On Saturday July 19th, D.C. United sponsored four local teams to play in Major League Soccer’s ¡Futbolito! 4v4 tournament at the Maryland SoccerPlex. The Black-and-Red provided transportation, covered registration fees and provided meals and equipment to the squads who competed. Each team played three games in a round-robin format, with two heading into their finale with a chance to advance out of their group.
Representing the United Soccer Club programs Park View site, the U-14 team fell just short of qualifying for the knockout round in their last game. Rapido Oriental, comprised of players from La Liga Continental, competed in the Adult Premier group and was also unable to earn a favorable result in their third match.
At the conclusion of the tournament, players had the chance to meet and take photographs with United forward Fabian Espindola.
While they were disappointed with the end results, the teams were pleased they had the opportunity to compete in a tournament-style format against diverse competition.
