Washington, D.C. – D.C. United announced today the club has re-signed midfielder Brandon Barklage. The two-year MLS veteran returns for his third season with the Black-and-Red after suffering a knee injury on May 26, 2010 in an international friendly with AC Milan. Additionally, defender Devon McTavish has been placed on the Disabled List following a concussion suffered in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. during a pre-season friendly against Florida International University.
“We are pleased to have concluded a deal with Brandon,” said General Manager Dave Kasper. “He’s put in all of the work needed to fully recover from a second ACL injury and his return to our active roster is well-deserved.”
Prior to his knee injury in 2010, Barklage played in three MLS matches for United, starting two of those contests. He was selected 36th overall in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft from St. Louis University, going on to play in 4 League contests (1 start) that season. Barklage’s rookie campaign was cut short by another knee injury on July 7, 2009 in United’s 2-1 U.S. Open Cup victory over the Harrisburg City Islanders.
McTavish is currently in his sixth season with D.C. United, having played in 83 League matches (69 starts) in his professional career, scoring one goal to accompany four assists. The defender was selected 43rd overall in the 2006 MLS Supplemental Draft by United.
