D.C. United have signed midfielder Paul Clowes, pending receipt of his P-1 visa, following a strong preseason from the English-born Clemson University graduate. Clowes, who United drafted with the 32nd overall pick in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft in January, will wear the number 16 shirt.
Originally from Cheshire, England, Clowes played in the Manchester City youth academy until he was 18 years old, when he moved to the United States to play at Clemson. During his four years at Clemson, he made 86 appearances (82 starts), and earned various honors, including ACC Tournament MVP and Second Team All-ACC in 2014 and MAC Hermann Semifinalist, NSCAA Second Team All-American and First Team All-ACC in 2015.
