D.C. United Sends Four Players to the Richmond Kickers

D.C. United has announced that the Club will loan four players to the Richmond Kickers this season as part of the two clubs’ affiliation agreement. Midfielder Collin Martin, defender Jalen Robinson, defender Luke Mishu and goalkeeper Travis Worra will all join the Kickers on loan for the 2015 season.

“Our players have a great track record of improving and making a difference on the field in meaningful games with the Kickers,” said Dave Kasper, D.C. United General Manager and Vice President of Soccer Operations. “We’re excited to have a group of them be a part of the exceptional Richmond program again this year.”

“We look forward to Jalen, Travis, Luke and Collin joining the squad and contributing in our quest for a USL championship,” said Leigh Cowlishaw, Richmond Kickers Director of Soccer.

D.C. United and the Richmond Kickers originally entered in to the agreement on January 24, 2013, as part of Major League Soccer’s partnership with USL, and earlier this year extended their partnership for 2015.

Martin, United’s sixth Homegrown signing, joined the Black-and-Red First Team in 2013 and has appeared in 13 games (six starts) and recorded one assist. He recorded his lone assist in his first appearance on August, 3, 2013 against the Montreal Impact in a 3-1 victory. The young midfielder was also loaned to the Kickers during his first professional season in 2013. Before joining United, Martin played one season at Wake Forest University and earned All-ACC Freshman Team honors in 2012.

Mishu is in his first season with the Black-and-Red after a four-year collegiate career at the University of Notre Dame. In 2014, the defender was named a team captain for the Fighting Irish and played every minute of every game, notching five assists while earning second-team All-ACC honors. The Knoxville, Tenn., native was also a key member of the Notre Dame squad that captured the 2013 national championship and the 2013 ACC regular-season title.

Robinson, United’s seventh Homegrown signing, joined the Black-and-Red First Team before the 2014 season after two years at Wake Forest University. The young defender has yet to feature for United in MLS competition after being loaned to the Kickers during the 2014 campaign. In two seasons at Wake Forest, Robinson was named ACC All-Freshman, Freshman All-American as well as Second Team All-ACC.

Worra is in his first season with D.C. United after graduating from the University of New Hampshire. During his four-year college career, Worra started 59 games (60 starts) and tied for second in program history in shutouts, third in wins and seventh in saves. The Lancaster, Pa., native was named America East Goalkeeper of the Year in 2013 and was a First Team All-America East selection.
