D.C. United’s Perry Kitchen called-up to U.S. U-20 National Team

Washington, D.C. – D.C. United announced today that central defender Perry Kitchen has been called-up to the United States Under 20 National Team. U.S. U-20 Head Coach Thomas Rongen has called upon 20 players for the CONCACAF U-20 Championship in Guatemala, including United’s third overall selection in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft. The U-20 team will hold a preliminary training camp in Dallas beginning Sunday, March 20, with the players set to travel to Guatemala City on March 25.


The United States has been drawn into Group B along with Panama and Suriname. The tournament, being held from March 28 through April 10, will determine CONCACAF’s participants in the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup. The U.S. will face Suriname in its first game on March 29 at 8:00 p.m. ET, while its second match against Panama on April 2 is slated for 6:00 p.m. ET. The top two teams in each of the four groups will advance to the quarterfinal round, where the winners will advance to the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup taking place from July 29-August 20 in Colombia.


Kitchen was captain of the U.S. U-17 National Team where he competed with the team in the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Championship in Nigeria.


United acquired Kitchen in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft with the third overall selection.
