D.C. United today announced that the club has acquired former U.S. youth international Conor Doyle on loan, the result of a League lottery conducted this morning. Per club and League policy, the terms of the deal were not disclosed. Doyle will join the Black-and-Red immediately and, pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate, will be available for selection.
“Conor is another quality young talent who has advanced international soccer experience for his age,” said D.C. United General Manager Dave Kasper. “This loan will allow us to take a close look at him with an eye on the future. We look forward to Conor’s arrival in DC and to integrating him among our strong core group of up-and-coming players.”
Doyle earned his first professional contract while on trial with Derby County (English Championship) during his first year at Creighton University and has spent all three of his professional seasons with the club, appearing 23 total times with the first team. He made his first senior start just two weeks after signing and he went on to make 14 total appearances in 2010-2011. Dealing with ankle and hamstring injuries, Doyle made only six appearances in 2011-12, his only start coming in November against Peterborough United. Appendicitis limited him to just a single start in 2012-13, as well as a handful of substitute appearances. Although he is an out-and-out striker, Doyle was also deployed in the midfield to provide an attacking outlet.
Doyle also boasts a decorated youth international resume. The forward appeared six times with the U.S. U-20 National Team, scoring four times including two at the 2011 CONCACAF U-20 Championships. He was also called into the Irish U-20 side and played in a single friendly before committing his international future to US teams. Doyle currently has one cap with the U.S. U-23 team.
