D.C. United announced today the team has acquired midfielder Austin da Luz from the New York Red Bulls as part of the deal which saw DC send an international spot to New York on Saturday.
"We are excited to be adding a quality left-sided midfielder to our team," said D.C. United General Manager Dave Kasper. "Austin is a very smart, technical player who is just coming into his own as a professional, and we are excited about his future."
Da Luz has played in seven regular season games in 2011 for New York, making four starts and notching a goal and an assist. The second-year player was drafted in the first round (14th overall) in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft out of Wake Forest University. He did not play a regular season match for New York in his rookie year.
During his four-year career at Wake Forest, da Luz played in 80 games (44 starts) and collected 13 goals and 39 assists. His 15 assists during his senior season were the most in the ACC and he left Wake Forest as the school's all-time leader in assists.
