D.C. United U-15/16 Academy forward Gerson Umaña was named U.S. Soccer Development Academy Player of the Week. Umaña scored a hat trick last Saturday against FC DELCO— the 15-year-old found the net in the 15th, 55th, and 62nd minutes. Umaña’s second goal would ultimately win the game for the Black-and-Red, beating FC DELCO 5-3 and improving its record to 14-2-4. With 15 goals on the season thus far, Umaña has continued to develop as a player and impress his coaches.
“Gerson has continued to progress as a player this season,” said D.C. United U16 Academy Head Coach Tom Torres. “While he's had some typical youth player ups and downs, he continues to impress all of us with his qualities and is an academy player to watch.”
