In Baltimore, United were active, trading twice and picking players in both rounds. After trading Targeted Allocation Money to Sporting Kansas City, United received the 11th overall pick and selected versatile German midfielder Julian Buescher from Syracuse University.
D.C. United traded again shortly thereafter, this time with Orlando City SC, and received TAM and a 2nd round pick in exchange for the 13th overall selection. The Black-and-Red selected central midfielder Paul Clowes from Clemson University with the 32nd overall pick. Clowes, from Cheshire, England, formerly played in the Manchester City academy from age 6 to 18.
D.C. United selected Liam Doyle in the fourth round of the 2016 MLS SuperDraft on Tuesday, Jan. 19 via conference call. Doyle, a defender from Ohio State University, was selected 67th overall and was United's third and final pick, as the team elected to pass on their next selection and were thus excluded from their final pick, per league rules.
