D.C. United Midfielder Russell Canouse Underwent Surgery
WASHINGTON (April 25, 2024) - D.C. United have announced that midfielder Russell Canouse successfully underwent colectomy surgery on March 22, 2024, to address his Ulcerative colitis; a diagnosis he received in 2021. The procedure was performed by Dr. Kimberly Matzie from Fairfax Colon and Rectal Surgery. It was the first of three surgeries that Canouse will undergo. The additional surgeries are scheduled to be performed in the coming months. The midfielder is expected to return to full team training in late Summer, early Fall 2024.

Although it was a hard decision to undergo a surgery, it’s exciting for me that after my recovery and rehabilitation, I will be much stronger and healthier after dealing with this issue for the last three years. For my career and my long term health, it was a no brainer and I’m excited to return to full team training later in the year.
