D.C. United have announced that forward Erik Sorga has been acquired by IFK Göteborg in the Swedish first division on a permanent transfer following the termination of his loan with VVV-Venlo in the Eerste Divisie, the second tier of Dutch soccer.

Sorga joined VVV-Venlo on a season-long loan on Aug. 12, 2021. After his acquisition by VVV-Venlo, Sorga scored three goals in 11 appearances for the Dutch side. He scored twice on his debut for the club in a 2-1 win against Almere City FC on Aug. 21, 2021.
Sorga joined the Black-and-Red on Jan. 29, 2020 after being acquired from D.C. United’s United Soccer League (USL) affiliate, Loudoun United FC. The 22-year-old made his MLS debut on March 7, 2020, in the 2-1 win against CF Montreal. Sorga scored his first career MLS goal in the 1-0 win against the New York Red Bulls on Sept. 2, 2020; a 98th-minute game-winner. In total, Sorga scored one goal in 21 appearances (nine starts) for the Black-and-Red.
