After Patrick Nyarko recorded his 200th MLS appearance Saturday against the San Jose Earthquakes, he joined a growing list of other Black-and-Red players who have already reached various milestones in the young 2016 season. The skillful and athletic winger, who has made four appearances—and four starts—for United thus far since his offseason move to the nation’s capital, previously spent eight years with the Chicago Fire.
Captain Bobby Boswell recently played his 150th match for the Black-and-Red during the 0-0 draw with the New England Revolution in Foxborough, MA., earlier this year. Now in his sixth season with United, Boswell has played more minutes in the last 2+ seasons than any other player in MLS.
Boswell’s fellow defender Taylor Kemp, a product of the University of Maryland, recently made his 50th appearance in MLS (all for the Black-and-Red). Since his selection in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft, Kemp has recorded eight assists from his left back position.
Meanwhile up the pitch, dynamic Argentine forward Fabián Espíndola, whose dramatic equalizer against the Colorado Rapids on March 20th capped off a week in which he also celebrated the birth of his daughter, made his 200th MLS regular season appearance last week against FC Dallas. The left-footer is in his tenth MLS season, and has 61 goals to his name.
Last year’s team MVP, Chris Rolfe, started his 200th career MLS match in the opening game of the 2016 season against the LA Galaxy. He is tied for second among active players (along with fellow United forward Álvaro Saborío) in game-winning goals with 22.
Lamar Neagle, another offseason acquisition, started his 100th MLS match against the Colorado Rapids on March 20. The former Sounders FC and Montreal Impact player scored his first goal for the Black-and-Red in the team’s first game of the year against the LA Galaxy.
