United players Russell Canouse, Steve Clark, Jared Jeffrey, Chris Odoi-Atsem, Kofi Opare, and Jalen Robinson will take over the grills at the new Nando’s in Rosslyn on Thursday April 12, flipping PERi-PERi chicken and serving dishes to fans. Nando’s will donate 100% of proceeds for the entire day (11AM - 10 PM) to D.C. United’s charity partner DC SCORES, the award-winning youth development non-profit that offers free after-school soccer and literacy programming to at-risk DC area youth.
Nando’s PERi-PERi, the South African-Portuguese restaurant known worldwide for its spicy flame-grilled chicken, recently hatched in Rosslyn, at 1800 North Lynn Street in the Central Place complex.
D.C. United soccer stars will man the Nando’s grills in Rosslyn on Thursday, between 2 PM and 8 PM. Throughout the day, Nando’s and D.C. United will raffle off signed team merchandise for lucky fans. Talon, the official mascot of D.C. United, will meet and greet guests and pose for photos from noon to 1:45 PM.
“This is an exciting time for D.C. United, with the opening of the team’s new arena this July,” said John Fisher, CEO of Nando’s PERi-PERi USA . “Our customers come from around the globe and are huge soccer fans, and we are so proud to partner with D.C. United to raise funds for at-risk DC area youth.”
The new Rosslyn location, Nando’s 41st restaurant in the US, features bold African colors and designs, including a striking portrait by self-taught Johannesburg artist Nqabutho Phakathi. Nando’s new restaurant is located in North Rosslyn, on the same block as the Rosslyn Metro station and walking distance to the Key Bridge and Georgetown. The store entrance is on North Moore Street.
