Bill Hamid - USMNT

D.C. United has announced that Homegrown goalkeeper Bill Hamid has been selected to the U.S. Men’s National Team roster for the international friendly vs. Ecuador on October 10 at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Conn. Hamid will fly to Houston, Texas, after the match and be available for selection for United’s match against the Houston Dynamo on Sunday, Oct. 12.

In his fifth year in Major League Soccer, Hamid is in the midst of a career season with D.C. United (15-9-7), which is currently in first place in the Eastern Conference. In 2014, the 23-year-old from Annandale, Va., has made 27 starts, leads MLS with a .756 saves percentage and established career bests for saves (102) and is tied for the League lead in shutouts (10). Earlier this season Hamid became the first MLS Homegrown player to register 100 appearances and was named an MLS All-Star for the first time.

Hamid was last called into the U.S. Men’s National Team in April 2014, when the U.S. played Mexico to a 2-2 draw at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz. He was also called into the U.S. team’s annual January training camp. In 2013, Hamid was a member of the gold medal-winning U.S. squad at the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup. He also appeared that year on the 18-man roster against Canada on Jan. 29 and against Germany on June 2, in the centennial celebration game for U.S. Soccer at RFK Stadium.

Hamid earned his first cap with the senior U.S. Men’s National Team and registered a clean sheet in a 1-0 win over Venezuela on Jan. 21, 2012 in Glendale, Ariz. He was called into the senior side for the first time in Aug. 2011. Hamid also was a member of the Under-23 U.S. Men’s National Team that attempted to qualify for the 2012 London Olympics.

On Sept. 2, 2009, Hamid became the first D.C. United Academy player to sign directly with the First Team. Hamid made history on May 5, 2010 when he became the youngest goalkeeper to win an MLS contest at 19 years and 161 days old.
