Midfielder Paul Arriola has earned the #23 spot on FourFourTwo's countdown of the 50 best American male players of 2017.
Arriola made a name for himself with the U.S. Men's National Team this year, appearing in 12 matches for the Americans and starting eight. His work rate on both sides of the ball, combined with his pace and cleverness in taking on defenders, earned the 22-year-old well-deserved recognition on the international scene throughout the year.
After signing with United in August, Arriola brought the same spark-plug qualities to the District, helping revitalize the Black-and-Red midfield. The energetic winger scored one goal and two assists in his first 11 Major League Soccer games, and will now look to use the 2018 season—his first full MLS season—to lead the Black-and-Red back toward the top of the Eastern Conference. Look for the 22-year-old to continue to impress for both club and country in 2018.
