D.C. United’s U-18 and U-16 Academy teams traveled to Pennsylvania this past weekend to take on FC Delco and PA Classics, respectively. Both teams will compete in final Development Academy regular season matches this weekend, with hopes of making the playoffs.
On Saturday, D.C. United’s U-16 side easily dispatched of first place FC Delco 4-0. Michael Seaton led the charge with two goals, while Cristhyan Najar and Jorge Calix also tallied for the Black-and-Red in a complete performance. Though the side dominated the game against PA Classics, an own goal was the difference in Sunday’s 1-0 loss.
“Overall, we were extremely happy wth the way the team played,” said D.C. United U-16 Head Coach Tom Torres. “We can see the confidence that the boys are playing with and the quality that is being shown. We were proud that they competed for two complete games. It was unfortunate to lose due to an own goal, but our expectation is for them to keep this form into this weekend.”
A short-handed U-18 side dropped both results over the weekend, falling 2-0 to FC Delco on Saturday and 1-0 to PA Classics on Sunday.
Both teams will travel north to take on Match Fit Chelsea’s teams on Saturday, before facing NJSA 04’s squads on Sunday. Both the U-16 and U-18 squads will be looking to solidify their position in the Development Academy playoffs.
