D.C. United’s U-18 and U-16 Academy teams resumed USSDA League action this past weekend, traveling north to face the New York Cosmos on Saturday and Met Oval on Sunday.
The U-18’s fell to the NY Cosmos by 3-1 on Saturday, March 24. Midfielder Collin Martin scored D.C. United’s lone goal of the match. The U-18’s then recovered on Sunday with a resounding 4-1 victory over Met Oval. United took the lead with a goal from Ryan Harmouche, assisted by Kevin Jimenez after quality build-up. Jalen Robinson then scored a brace to extend the lead, while Bernardo Majano tallied the fourth and final goal for the U-18’s.
United’s U-16’s defeated the NY Cosmos Academy 1-0 on Saturday. Despite the windy conditions, Lars Eckenrode was able to place a cross from a 40-yard set piece onto Michael Seaton’s head, who headed the ball into the back of the net to score what would prove to be the game-winning goal.
“With the conditions being what they were, our back four did a tremendous job in shutting down the Cosmos’ aerial attacks,” said United U-16 Head Coach Tom Torres. “The boys did a good job of finding a rhythm in their possession, which led to several scoring opportunities. It was a solid 80-minute effort that the team had been looking for these first couple of weeks.”
The U-16’s were unable to repeat its performance on Sunday and fell 3-1 against Met Oval. United’s only goal was scored by Ian Harkes off a penalty kick, after Christian Kershaw was taken down in the box.
