Academy Update: October 21, 2014

The D.C. United Academy went 3-2-0 last weekend in their games against Continental FC Delco and Soccer Association of Columbia. While the U13s, U15s, U16s and U18s hosted Continental FC Delco at Catholic University in Washington, D.C., on Sunday, the U14s traveled and played Soccer Association of Columbia at Covenant Park in Columbia, Md., on Saturday.

Academy teams will be traveling away this coming weekend. The U16s and U18s will have a double fixture weekend against BSC on Saturday, Oct. 25, and Oakwood SC on Sunday, Oct. 26. The U12s will take on Ukrainian Nationals and the U14s will face PA Classics. The U13s and U15s will not have a game this weekend but will still focus on training for their next upcoming match.

U13s: 2-2 Continental FC Delco
Goals: Jair Sosa, Iker Bustamante
“Overall it was a very even match,” said D.C. United U13 Head Coach John Bello. “We competed well and so did Continental FC Delco. We were unlucky not to pull a win but the way our team played we were content with the result.”

U14s: 1-1 tie against Soccer Association of Columbia
Goal: Alexis Cerritos
“We had most of the possession throughout the entire game,” said D.C. U14 Head Coach Jeff Carroll. “It was a team effort and we fought hard to score an equalizer in the 80th minute.”

U15s: 3-1 win over Continental FC Delco
Goals: SahrFelix Sandy, Conor Gill (2 goals)
“It was a very good first half,” said D.C. United U-15 Assistant Coach Nenad Babic. “Going into the second half our performance dropped down. At times we lost focus and did not compete at the same level as the first half. Our focus moving forward is to be able to play the whole game at the same level.”

U16s: 5-2 win over Continental FC Delco
Goals: Raheem Lawal (2 goals), Griffin Godsick (2 goals), Max Edwards
“The group started very strongly and created numerous chances in the first half,” said D.C. United U16 Head Coach Jonathan Frias. “We were able to destabilize Continental FC Delco’s defense in the wing and scored 3 goals in the first 30 minutes. The second half was tight although we dominated possession. Raheem Lawal came off the bench midway though the half and gave the group an option getting behind Continental FC Delco’s defense.”
