Following-up on Part I of our Academy scouting report, we continue with United Academy graduates who are not competing in the NCAA Division I College Cup, but are very much on the club’s radar as potential Homegrown prospects.

Academy scouting report – Part II -

Ryan Gracia: Gracia was recently honored by the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) for the second time in his career, being named to the 2011 All-CAA Third Team. The D.C. United Academy graduate earned his first CAA honor in 2008, when he was named to the CAA All-Rookie team. Prior to enrolling in George Mason University, Gracia was named 2007 All-Met Player of the Year by The Washington Post. The Rockville native played 15 matches (12 starts) for George Mason this season, registering six goals and four assists during his senior campaign. Overall, Gracia has played 62 matches (53 starts) for the Patriots, tallying 15 goals and nine assists since 2008.

Julio Arjona: Arjona left his mark on D.C. United’s Academy after helping the team lift the SUM Cup in 2007, and he was recently coached by Jaime Moreno in United’s U-23 squad. Arjona featured prominently for the U.S. U-17 National Team, spending three semesters in the residency program and playing 42 matches. The young midfielder was named 2009 All-Met Player of the Year by The Washington Post, and the Maryland Association of Soccer Coaches named him to the 2009 All-State First Team. Before transferring to George Mason, Arjona played a season for West Virginia University, where he played 17 matches and scored one goal. The United Academy graduate played 18 matches (16 starts) with George Mason University, tallying three goals and three assists during the 2011 season.

Tyler Rudy: A graduate of United’s U-18 team, Rudy excelled at Sherwood High School. The young defender was named to the All-Met Team by The Washington Post during his junior and senior campaigns, and was also a Maryland First Team All-State honoree. In 2010, he was named to the NSCAA High School Academic All-American Team. Rudy played for the D.C. United Reserves twice in 2011, coming in as a substitute during the matches against Philadelphia Union and New England Revolution. The United Academy product is currently completing his freshman year at Georgetown University.
