#24 Bill Hamid
Bill Hamid returned to D.C. United on loan from FC Midtjylland and is enjoying one of his best seasons in a D.C. United uniform. The goalkeeper has been dominant for the Black-and-Red, leading United to one of the best defensive records in MLS this season. Hamid has already surpassed his save total from the 2018 season as he leads all goalkeepers in MLS with 68 saves (40 of which were inside the box) while maintaining a save percentage of 80 percent. Hamid is also second in the league in terms of shutouts with seven so far this season, trailing only Atlanta United’s Brad Guzan. The most shutouts in a season for Hamid since recording eight in 2015.
Hamid has not only been stellar from open play but has also stopped both penalty kicks he has faced this season. During the 0-0 tie against Toronto FC on May 15, Hamid was unbeatable, setting a club record with 12 saves helping the Black-and-Red to a hard-earned point against their Eastern Conference rivals. Fans will be hoping that Hamid continues displaying why he is one of the best goalkeepers in the league in 2019.
#1 Chris Seitz
Chris Seitz made his debut for D.C. United against Spain’s Real Betis. The veteran goalkeeper recorded five saves, one of which earned Allstate Save of the Match. Seitz earned his competitive debut for the Black-and-Red during the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup match against the Philadelphia Union on June 12. Seitz recorded five saves helping the team record a 2-1 victory after extra-time at Audi Field. He had a great save using his foot to deny Philadelphia’s Fabrice-Jean Picault left footed shot from inside the box.
Seitz has had a fruitful career in MLS and has recorded over 100 appearances in the league. Playing for Houston during the 2018 season, Seitz started in six games. He led the Dynamo with two clean sheets in three games while leading the team to win the 2018 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
#36 Earl Edwards Jr.
The newly acquired Earl Edwards Jr. has yet to see the field wearing a D.C. United kit, but there is no doubt he was a valuable addition to the club. The former captain of UCLA was sent over to the nation’s capital in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2019 draft.
For most of the season, Edwards Jr. has been loaned to Loudoun United FC where he has had some success. The 27-year-old has played in five matches for the USL side recording 18 saves and a save percentage of 70 percent. Edwards Jr. was also in between the sticks for Loudoun’s only clean sheet this season in a 0-0 draw with the Tampa Bay Rowdies on March 30.
