Today, after the trade window closed, each team submitted its protected list for the 2014 Expansion Draft.
Watch it live at 2 p.m. HERE
Here's how it will work. Each team protects 11 players between its Senior and Supplemental Rosters. Orlando City SC will pick first, then New York City FC will follow. Each team will pick ten times. Once a player is chosen from a team's non-protected roster, that team can move a player from its non-protected roster to its protected roster. Additionally, once two players are selected from one team, that team is eliminated from the draft.
Some additional notes
- Homegrown players on the Supplemental Roster are automatically protected.
-
Each team must protect the number of international players it has, minus three.
- If the team has less than three international players, it can only make one available.
- If a team only has one international player, it does not have to make him available.
- For this Expansion Draft, all non-domestic U.S. players are international players.
- Team's Designated Players are not automatically protected.
- If a club protects a player, it is not obligated to exercise his option and can renegotiate.
