For the first time since January, D.C. United have released updated renderings of the new stadium, tentatively named D.C. United Stadium, which is scheduled to open in 2018. In addition to  Take a look below at the Black-and-Red's new home in Southwest D.C.

Fan Plaza

New stadium renderings released -
  • At the corner of Potomac Ave. and Half St. is a 65,000 square foot public plaza that will also serve as a game day festival plaza and queuing area for the main gate. The plaza will function as a meeting spot and focal point of the fan experience on matchdays, with food and beverage vendors, live music, broadcast set, merchandise for sale and corporate partnership activation areas.  The Plaza will include a sculpture of “D.C. United” and a non-game day splash fountain. Furthermore, the plaza area also will include a shaded (tree canopy) seating area and a structural canopy area for more shade.
  • On days without a match, a fountain will surround the D.C. United structure and food vendors will be able to serve pedestrians.

1st St. Realignment

New stadium renderings released -
  • 1st St., which has been realigned as a private two-way road along the east side of the stadium, will be open to the public and provide a direct connection for cars, bicyclists, and pedestrians toward the waterfront through the stadium site. On matchdays, when the plaza hosts pre- and post-game activities, this road will be closed.

Parklets

  • The sidewalk along the east side of 2nd Street, adjacent to the stadium, will include parklets to provide an unconventional but active and engaging experience for pedestrians and fans.  The parklets will include seating areas and bike parking.
