D.C. United’s Travis Worra and Patrick Nyarko have been named to the MLS Team of the Week following standout performances in Friday’s 2-0 victory over the New York Red Bulls.
Nyarko--making his return to the lineup after having been subbed out because of illness in United’s previous match against New York City FC--continued his impressive form in attack, serving up a beautiful through ball that created the first goal and notching the second himself with an outside-of-the-foot streaking volley of a Lamar Neagle cross. The former Chicago Fire winger--now tied for second-leading scorer on the team with three goals this season--recently earned league recognition when he was nominated for Goal of the Week following his April 2 header against the San Jose Earthquakes, and was also named to the Team of the Week bench following an impressive performance in United’s 3-0 win against the New England Revolution on April 23.
Worra has been a revelation in goal since stepping into a starting role in March, following injuries to veterans Bill Hamid and Andrew Dykstra. On Friday, the 23-year-old goalkeeper put in a lights-out performance, making five saves against a dangerous Red Bulls attack, including a stunning pair of point-blank stops in the 32nd minute to keep the visitors off the scoresheet. Worra now has four shutouts on the season.
